New Delhi, March 3: Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan released 13 publications celebrating Tamil heritage, literature, architecture and civilisational thought at a function held in the national capital. The books have been brought out by the Publications Division under the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The publications explore a wide range of themes central to Tamil history and culture, including the spiritual significance of Rameswaram, the philosophy of Sri Ramanuja, the Nadukal (hero stone) tradition, and the ancient trade centre of Arikamedu. The Bhakti literature of the Nayanmars and Alwars also finds place in the series.
Architectural landmarks that symbolise Tamil Nadu’s rich temple heritage, including the Meenakshi Amman Temple and the Brihadeesvara Temple, are prominently featured in the collection.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice-President underscored India’s cultural unity amid diversity. “Bharat is a land of many languages, but its soul is one,” he said, adding that the country has remained united through a shared Dharma despite linguistic and religious differences. He noted that this idea reflects the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
Radhakrishnan also released a book on Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in Tamil, English and Hindi. Recalling the significance of “Vande Mataram,” he said the song carries “the fragrance of our soil and the spirit of our motherland.”
Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for promoting Tamil language and culture on the global stage, the Vice-President cited the establishment of a Tiruvalluvar Chair in Malaysia and the conduct of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam as examples of efforts aimed at strengthening national integration.
Encouraging young people to develop reading habits, he urged them to devote at least an hour each day to books. In a rapidly evolving technological world, he said, the youth require “strong roots along with wings” to navigate the future.
Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan were present at the event.
