The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) has announced that drinking water supply will be temporarily suspended in several parts of Chennai for 24 hours to carry out repair work on a major water transmission pipeline.
According to officials, the maintenance work is being undertaken to fix a leak in the drinking water transmission pipeline located near Arcot Road in the Porur–Valasaravakkam area. The repair is considered essential to ensure uninterrupted and efficient water supply in the long term.
As part of the work, piped drinking water supply will remain suspended from 11:00 PM on March 7 to 11:00 PM on March 8 in several areas across the city. The affected regions fall under five zones of Chennai’s water distribution network.
The zones where water supply will be temporarily halted include Zone 9 – Teynampet, Zone 10 – Kodambakkam, Zone 11 – Valasaravakkam, Zone 12 – Alandur, and Zone 13 – Adyar.
Authorities have advised residents in these areas to store adequate quantities of drinking water in advance to avoid inconvenience during the suspension period.
For emergency requirements, residents can request water through tanker services under the “Dial for Water” facility by registering on the official CMWSSB website. Officials also clarified that water supply through tankers to areas without pipeline connections, public water tanks and street taps will continue as usual without any interruption.
The water board said the repair work is necessary to address the pipeline leak and ensure improved water distribution once the maintenance is completed.
