New Delhi, Mar 9: Former India captain MS Dhoni broke his long silence on social media to congratulate Team India after their historic victory in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
India clinched the title after defeating New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs in the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 8. The win helped India secure their third T20 World Cup title and become the first team to successfully defend the trophy.
Dhoni shared a heartfelt message on Instagram praising the team’s performance and especially acknowledging head coach Gautam Gambhir. In his post, Dhoni humorously referred to Gambhir as “coach sahab” and said that “intensity with a smile is a killer combination,” highlighting the coach’s leadership during the tournament.
The legendary wicketkeeper-batter also applauded pacer Jasprit Bumrah for his outstanding performance in the final. Bumrah delivered a match-winning spell of 4 wickets for 15 runs, which earned him the Player of the Match award.
India’s dominant performance in the final saw the team post a massive 255 for 5, before restricting New Zealand to 159 runs. The victory sparked celebrations across the country as fans and former cricketers praised the team’s fearless approach and strong teamwork.
Dhoni’s post quickly went viral on social media, with cricket fans welcoming the legendary captain’s return online and appreciating his support for the new generation of Indian players.
