Former Tamil Nadu Minister and DMK strongman Senthil Balaji has confirmed that he will appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on March 17 for questioning in connection with the Karur stampede case.
The Karur stampede, which occurred on September 27, 2025, at a TVK political rally in Velusamypuram, Karur district, claimed 41 lives and injured over 60 people. The tragedy was attributed to overcrowding, poor crowd management, limited entry and exit points, and delayed arrival of the rally leader, leading to panic among attendees.
The CBI, which took over the investigation following a Supreme Court directive, is examining crowd control arrangements, rally permissions, coordination between organisers and authorities, and other related evidence. They enquired TVK leader Vijay, party functionarand police officers.
Senthil Balaji’s appearance is expected to contribute to the inquiry into the lapses and accountability in the incident.
