New Delhi, Mar 10: India head coach Gautam Gambhir has reiterated that individual milestones will not be prioritised during his tenure, stressing that winning trophies remains the ultimate goal for the team.
Speaking after India’s 96-run victory over the New Zealand national cricket team in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on Sunday, Gambhir said personal records should not overshadow collective achievements in a team sport.
He added that he and India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav share the same philosophy, urging the media to celebrate titles rather than individual landmarks. Gambhir also cited Sanju Samson’s aggressive knocks in the knockout stages as an example of selfless cricket. The former opener also brushed aside social media criticism, saying his accountability lies with the players.
