The Election Commission of India has allotted the ‘mic’ election symbol to the Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi (IJK), a party led by SRM Group founder T. R. Paarivendhar, ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The symbol was earlier associated with the Naam Tamilar Katchi, headed by Seeman, during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. However, the Election Commission has now allocated the symbol to IJK after the party requested a separate election symbol to contest upcoming polls.
Officials said the symbol can be used by IJK candidates if the party contests across the state’s 234 Assembly constituencies. The party is currently part of the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu.
In the 2024 parliamentary elections, Paarivendhar had contested on the BJP’s lotus symbol, but the party has now received the ‘mic’ symbol as its own. Whether IJK candidates will contest using the symbol in the Assembly elections will depend on the number of seats allotted to the party in the alliance.
The move comes as political parties in Tamil Nadu prepare for the 2026 Assembly elections, with alliances and seat-sharing discussions currently underway.
