DMK strongman R. S. Bharathi has strongly criticised Narendra Modi over his remarks that the Centre had significantly increased funding for Tamil Nadu during the last ten years.
Responding to the Prime Minister’s speech at an National Democratic Alliance rally in Tiruchirappalli, the DMK leader alleged that Modi’s claim that the Union government had given three times more funds to Tamil Nadu compared to the previous government was “a blatant lie.”
Bharathi questioned the Prime Minister to produce evidence supporting the claim that the Centre had allocated substantially higher funds to the state over the past decade.
During the rally, Modi had said that since 2014 the Union government had allocated around ₹3 lakh crore to Tamil Nadu and significantly increased spending on infrastructure, including highways and rural roads.
Reacting to this, Bharathi said the Centre should provide clear details to justify the figures mentioned by the Prime Minister.
The exchange has further intensified the political war of words between the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the upcoming elections in Tamil Nadu.
