Passengers traveling through Chennai International Airport have been advised to take note of temporary traffic changes introduced due to ongoing Phase-2 expansion works and the construction of a new Terminal 3.
The revised arrangements, implemented by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), aim to ensure the safety of passengers and smooth airport operations during the construction period.
Terminal 4 Entry Gate Closed
As part of the expansion work, the vehicle entry gate near Terminal 4 has been temporarily closed. Authorities said this step was necessary to facilitate construction activity in the area.
New Route for Incoming Vehicles
Passengers approaching the airport from the Tambaram side will now have to follow an alternate route. Motorists have been instructed to:
Use the GST Road service lane
Enter the airport through the Terminal 2 entry gate
Airport officials have urged drivers to follow on-ground signage and traffic personnel to avoid confusion.
Revised Exit Plan
Vehicles exiting from the Terminal 4 departure area will be routed through a single designated exit lane. This measure is expected to streamline vehicle movement and reduce congestion near the construction zone.
No Changes for T1 and T2
Passengers using Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 will not face any changes in access routes and can continue using existing entry and exit points.
Transport Facilities Adjusted
For passenger convenience, battery-operated shuttle services between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 will continue as usual. However, services between Terminal 1 and Terminal 4 have been temporarily suspended.
Walkalator facilities connecting Terminal 1 and Terminal 4 will remain operational, allowing passengers to move between terminals without difficulty.
Temporary Measures Till April 24
The revised traffic arrangements will remain in force for 40 days, until April 24. Authorities indicated that normal traffic flow is expected to resume depending on the progress of the expansion work.
The airport expansion project is aimed at increasing passenger handling capacity, upgrading infrastructure, and enhancing the overall travel experience at one of India’s busiest aviation hubs.
