Chennai, Mar 25:
Indian Railways on Tuesday announced a revision to its ticket cancellation policy, introducing stricter timelines for refunds.
According to the new rules, passengers cancelling their tickets less than eight hours before the scheduled departure will not be eligible for any refund.
For cancellations made between 8 and 24 hours before departure, passengers will receive a 50% refund. Cancellations made between 24 and 72 hours prior to travel will incur a deduction of 25% of the fare in addition to the usual cancellation charges.
Tickets cancelled at least 72 hours before departure will continue to be fully refunded.
The revised cancellation policy is set to come into effect from April 1. Indian Railways has advised passengers to plan their travel and cancellations accordingly to avoid losing their fares under the new system.
