Chennai, Mar 30:

The nomination process for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections officially began on Monday, marking a key phase in the electoral schedule.

Candidates can file their nominations till April 6, with submissions allowed daily between 11 am and 3 pm, excluding public holidays.

Authorities have imposed strict guidelines during the filing process. Only four persons are permitted to accompany a candidate, and a maximum of three vehicles will be allowed within 100 metres of the Returning Officer’s office.

The Election Commission has also enabled online filing through its Suvidha portal, with candidates required to submit digitally filled forms and later provide a signed physical copy with a QR code. Enhanced security arrangements, including CCTV surveillance and full video recording, have been put in place.

The scrutiny of nominations will take place on April 7, while the last date for withdrawal is April 9. Polling across the state is scheduled for April 23, with counting of votes on May 4.
