Chandigarh, Apr 2:
A fresh twist has emerged in the investigation into the explosion outside the BJP office in Sector 37, Chandigarh, with a Khalistani terrorist claiming responsibility for the attack.
Sources said that Sukhjinder Singh Babar, a known Khalistani extremist, has allegedly taken responsibility for the low-intensity blast through a message circulated online. The claim is currently being verified by security agencies.
The explosion, which occurred on Tuesday evening, caused panic in the area but did not result in any casualties. Minor damage was reported to vehicles and nearby property.
Officials from the Chandigarh Police and central intelligence agencies are examining the authenticity of the claim and its possible links to banned Khalistani outfits. Investigators are also analysing digital footprints and communication channels through which the message was shared.
Security has been tightened across key installations in the city, and surveillance has been increased in sensitive areas.
