Chennai, Apr 3:
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Thursday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party is making desperate attempts to gain a foothold in Coimbatore ahead of the Assembly elections.
Addressing campaign events, Stalin said the BJP was intensifying its focus on the western region, particularly Coimbatore, as part of a broader electoral strategy. He suggested that the party’s actions reflected a sense of urgency to expand its presence in a region that has traditionally seen strong competition among Dravidian parties.
The Chief Minister also criticised the BJP’s approach, accusing it of trying to influence voters through political manoeuvres rather than addressing the real needs of the people. He maintained that the electorate in Coimbatore is politically aware and would not be swayed by such efforts.
Stalin further highlighted the initiatives undertaken by the DMK government in the western belt, including infrastructure and development projects, asserting that these measures would resonate with voters.
The remarks come amid intensified campaigning in the Kongu region, which remains a crucial battleground in the run-up to the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Political parties are focusing heavily on Coimbatore and surrounding districts, given their strategic importance in determining the overall electoral outcome.
