Amarkalam, the landmark 25th film of Ajith Kumar, is set for a grand re-release across Tamil Nadu from April 24, promising a celebratory experience for fans and cinema lovers.

Directed by Saran, the 1999 film marked a defining shift in Ajith’s career, transforming him from a romantic lead into a full-fledged action star. The film not only emerged as a blockbuster upon release but also redefined his on-screen image, laying the foundation for his rise as a mass icon.

The film holds added emotional value as it brought together Ajith and Shalini, whose on-screen pairing later blossomed into one of Tamil cinema’s most admired real-life relationships. The re-release coincides with their wedding anniversary on April 24, adding to the nostalgia surrounding the occasion.

Featuring music by Bharadwaj, the film’s soundtrack remains iconic, with songs like “Unnodu Vaazhaadha Vaazhvenna Vaazhvu…” and “Sathamillatha” continuing to resonate across generations. The latter also showcased the powerful vocals of S. P. Balasubrahmanyam alongside Ajith’s intense performance.

Now restored in 4K digital format, the film is expected to recreate its original theatrical magic, with fans gearing up for a festive turnout in cinemas. The re-release is being presented across the State by Sparrow Cinemas’ Karthick Venkatesan, ensuring a wide and celebratory rollout.
