Chennai, Apr 15:
Preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu are gathering pace, with election authorities set to commence the crucial process of fixing party symbols on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) from tomorrow.
Officials said the symbol-setting exercise is a key step in ensuring that voters can clearly identify candidates while casting their votes. The process will be carried out under strict supervision, in the presence of designated officials as well as representatives of various political parties to maintain transparency.
The work involves accurately placing candidate names, party symbols and other details on the ballot units of the EVMs. Authorities noted that meticulous verification procedures will be followed at every stage to avoid errors and ensure the integrity of the voting process. Similar protocols have been implemented in previous elections, with district administrations closely monitoring the exercise.
As part of the preparations, officials will also undertake verification of entries, secure handling of machines and their allocation to respective constituencies. The entire process is being conducted in accordance with established guidelines to uphold the principles of free and fair elections.
With polling day approaching, the commencement of EVM symbol-setting marks a significant milestone in the final phase of election readiness across the state.
