Chennai, Apr 16:
AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami launched a sharp attack on the DMK government over the alleged sexual assault and physical attack on a college student near Minjur in Tiruvallur district, calling it a “complete breakdown” of law and order in the State.
In a statement, he said the incident, reportedly involving a gang under the influence of drugs, was not isolated but indicative of a growing pattern of violent crimes under the current regime. “The young student, who was alone at home and targeted in a premeditated attack, is now fighting for her life. This is not just a crime—it is a collapse of governance,” he said.
Highlighting the alleged nexus of drug abuse and violent crime, Palaniswami said the convergence of narcotics, sexual violence, and attempted murder in a single case showed that the government had lost control of the situation.
He demanded immediate and stringent action against those involved and urged the police to ensure swift justice. Holding the DMK government accountable, he criticised Chief Minister M. K. Stalin for what he termed silence on issues concerning women’s safety.
