Karur, Apr 20:
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Sunday accused the DMK-Congress alliance of “defeating women’s rights” by blocking the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament.
Addressing a poll campaign in Karur, he alleged that the failure of the legislation denied women their rightful political representation and called it a “lost opportunity” for empowerment.
Palaniswami said the move had exposed the true stand of the DMK and its allies on issues concerning women’s welfare.
Targeting Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, he claimed the state government had failed to recognise the long-term benefits of the Bill and had instead opposed it for political reasons.
