Chennai, April 22:
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has launched a sharp attack on Edappadi K. Palaniswami, alleging that he is willing to compromise Tamil Nadu’s interests in pursuit of power.
State secretary P Shanmugam claimed that the AIADMK leader aligned with the BJP solely to secure the Chief Minister’s post, without regard for the State’s rights or federal autonomy.
In a video message, Shanmugam described the AIADMK-BJP alliance as one that could “mortgage Tamil Nadu’s interests,” urging voters to reject the combine in the upcoming Assembly elections.
He said the electoral battle would primarily be between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance and the AIADMK-BJP front, and appealed to the electorate to back parties that would safeguard the State’s rights and development.
Highlighting the role of Left parties, Shanmugam noted that CPM and its allies have a strong track record in grassroots struggles and public service. He urged voters to elect Left candidates to strengthen representation of workers and marginalised communities in the Assembly.
