Chennai, Apr 22:
In a major pre-poll crackdown, officials seized over ₹2 crore in unaccounted cash from the Mylapore Assembly constituency, triggering political tension.
The seizure was made during intensified surveillance by Election Commission flying squads, amid suspicion that the money was meant for voter distribution. Authorities have launched an investigation to trace the source and intended use of the cash.
This comes as enforcement teams across Tamil Nadu have stepped up action ahead of the April 23 Assembly elections, with large-scale seizures reported statewide to curb electoral malpractice.
Officials reiterated that strict monitoring will continue to ensure free and fair polling.
