Chennai, Apr 24:In the wake of the recently concluded polling for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, authorities in Chennai have put in place an elaborate four-layer security system to safeguard Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) stored in strong rooms across the city.
Election officials said the multi-tier arrangement has been designed to ensure foolproof protection and transparency until the counting of votes, with round-the-clock surveillance and strict access control.

The innermost layer comprises armed police personnel stationed directly outside the strong rooms. These officers maintain 24×7 vigil, ensuring that no unauthorised person gains access to the sealed units where EVMs and VVPAT machines are stored.
The second layer functions as a restricted access zone, allowing only authorised election officials to enter after thorough verification. Candidates and their authorised agents have been permitted to remain present at designated areas nearby to monitor the security arrangements.

the third layer includes continuous CCTV surveillance, with cameras installed at all critical points inside and around the premises. Officials noted that live monitoring systems have been enabled to enhance transparency and accountability.
The outermost layer consists of heavy deployment of police personnel and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), guarding the perimeter of the strong room locations. Barricades, patrol units, and strict entry checks have been enforced to prevent any untoward incidents.

In addition to these measures, the strong rooms have been sealed in the presence of candidates and election observers, with proper documentation and videography. The security cover will remain in force until the completion of the counting process.
Officials emphasised that the arrangements are in line with the Election Commission’s guidelines aimed at ensuring free, fair, and credible elections, while also instilling confidence among political parties and voters alike.

With the counting day approaching, authorities reiterated that no lapses will be tolerated and that all necessary steps have been taken to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
