Chennai, Apr 27: In a sharp political attack amid the post-election atmosphere, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. Selvaperunthagai on Sunday claimed that AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami would not even secure the post of Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly. Launching a strong criticism, Selvaperunthagai questioned Palaniswami’s leadership and political standing, asserting that the AIADMK would fail to secure enough seats to claim the Opposition status.
The remarks come in the wake of heightened political exchanges following the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The Congress leader further alleged that the people of Tamil Nadu are looking for accountable governance and would reject what he termed as ineffective leadership from the opposition ranks. His comments reflect the aggressive stance adopted by alliance parties as they await the election results. Meanwhile, Palaniswami, who currently serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly since 2021, isexpressing confidence in a strong electoral performance. The post of Leader of the Opposition is accorded to the largest party outside the ruling government, provided it meets the required strength in the Assembly.
