Kolkata, Apr 29:
Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of attempting to “rig” the West Bengal Assembly elections, alleging that central forces and observers were acting at its behest.
The BJP rejected the claims, accusing the ruling Trinamool Congress of trying to create confusion amid public anger. Banerjee, visiting polling booths in Bhabanipur, alleged irregularities and interference by outsiders.
Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari expressed confidence of victory, while Abhishek Banerjee asserted that the TMC would return to power with a bigger mandate.
Voting is underway in 142 constituencies in the second and final phase, with heavy security deployment. The results are scheduled to be announced on May 4.
