Chennai, Apr 30:

The Greater Chennai Corporation has announced a 5% discount on property tax for residents who pay their dues on or before April 30, 2026. The move comes with the start of the 2026–27 financial year, during which property owners are required to settle their first half-year tax within 30 days.

As part of the incentive, taxpayers who meet the deadline can avail a rebate of up to ₹5,000 on their total property tax. In addition to savings, early payment will also help residents avoid a 1% penalty that is otherwise levied on delayed payments, making it a beneficial option for prompt compliance.

To ensure ease of payment, the corporation has enabled multiple channels, including the official online portal, the TN Urban e-Sevai mobile application, UPI-based apps, and physical tax collection centres across Chennai. These options are aimed at providing flexibility and reducing last-minute rush at counters.

With the deadline fast approaching, authorities have urged residents to complete their payments at the earliest to take advantage of the limited-time rebate and avoid additional charges.
