Chennai, May 1:
Cricket fans heading to the high-voltage Indian Premier League clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk on Tuesday will be able to travel free of cost on the Chennai Metro.
The facility has been announced by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) in collaboration with CSK Cricket Limited to improve commuter convenience and ensure smooth access to major sporting events in the city. Under the arrangement, valid match ticket holders will be eligible for complimentary metro travel to and from the venue.
As per the announcement, spectators can avail one round-trip journey—comprising two entries and two exits—between their chosen metro stations and Government Estate station. Both digital and physical match tickets can be scanned at automatic fare gates to access the service.
The initiative covers select IPL league matches and aims to reduce congestion around Chepauk by encouraging public transport usage.
To further assist fans returning after the match, special late-night metro services will operate on May 2.
The last train from Government Estate station will depart at 1 am towards Wimco Nagar Depot Metro station as well as towards Airport Metro station, following the conclusion of the match.
Officials said the extended services are designed to ensure safe, convenient and uninterrupted travel for thousands of spectators attending one of the most anticipated fixtures of the season.
