Actor-politician Vijay has opened up a decisive early lead in the Perambur constituency, reinforcing the rising momentum of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the ongoing Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2026.

By the end of the third round of counting, Vijay had secured 5,613 votes, placing him comfortably ahead of his closest rival from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), who trailed with 3,348 votes. Candidates from the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) and Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) remained far behind, polling 542 and 230 votes respectively.

The Perambur contest is being closely watched as a key indicator of TVK’s electoral debut performance, and early trends suggest that Vijay’s personal appeal is translating into tangible votes on the ground. The constituency, located in north Chennai, has traditionally been a competitive urban seat, making the current margin significant in the early stages.

Across Tamil Nadu, initial counting patterns indicate that TVK is putting up a stronger-than-expected fight, challenging established players in several constituencies. However, officials caution that these are early trends, and the margins may shift as counting progresses through later rounds.

With multiple rounds still to be counted, the focus now shifts to whether Vijay can consolidate this lead and convert it into a decisive victory, potentially marking a major political entry for the actor-turned-politician.
