Chennai, May 6:
The Indian National Congress has extended its support to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam to form the government in Tamil Nadu, with AICC in-charge for the state Girish Chodankar issuing a detailed statement outlining the partyâs position.
The development comes after TVK, led by C. Joseph Vijay, emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats, while the Congress secured 5 seats in the Assembly, strengthening the numbers required for government formation.
Chodankar said that Vijay had formally sought Congress support following the election results, adding that the people of Tamil Nadu, particularly the youth, had delivered a clear and decisive mandate for a secular, progressive, and welfare-oriented government rooted in constitutional principles.
Stating that the Congress remains committed to upholding such values, he announced that the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee and the Congress Legislative Party had decided to extend full support to TVK in forming the government, respecting the peopleâs mandate.
He further highlighted that the alliance would work towards reviving the legacy of K. Kamaraj, while remaining committed to the social justice ideals of Periyar E. V. Ramasamy and the constitutional vision of B. R. Ambedkar.
Chodankar added that the partnership would be based on mutual respect, shared responsibility, and long-term cooperation, extending beyond government formation to future electoral engagements, including local body polls and parliamentary elections.
He concluded by stating that both Vijay and Rahul Gandhi are committed to respecting the historic verdict of the people and working collectively to fulfil the aspirations of Tamil Nadu, especially its youth.
