Che, May 16:

The State Cyber Crime Wing has invoked preventive detention under the Goondas Act against three key accused in the ‘Jana Nayagan’ movie leak case, following the film’s online piracy soon after its release.

The action comes in connection with the unauthorised circulation of the Jana Nayagan, starring Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, which was leaked online on April 11. Based on digital forensic evidence, police identified the accused as S Prashanth, S Selvam, and Bala alias Balakrishnan.

Officials said detention orders were executed on May 13 after determining that the trio posed a continued threat to public order through organised piracy networks. Investigations revealed that they were actively involved in stealing, processing, and distributing the pirated version of the film across multiple digital platforms.

Citing the seriousness and coordinated nature of the offence, authorities stated that preventive detention was necessary to curb further illegal piracy activities and protect intellectual property rights in the film industry.
