Online narrative beat us, not ground-level politics: Stalin

Chennai,  May 19:

Former Chief Minister and DMK president M. K. Stalin on Monday said the ruling government led by C. Joseph Vijay could also be described as a “Dravidian model government” if it continues implementing the welfare schemes introduced during the previous DMK regime. Speaking at a family function of a party functionary in Thanjavur, Stalin noted that the people were well aware of the development initiatives and social welfare programmes carried out over the past five years.

Extending his wishes to the new administration, Stalin said he had urged the government to carry forward the schemes launched by the DMK, adding that their continuation reflects the enduring relevance of the Dravidian model. At the same time, he acknowledged the party’s recent electoral defeat despite extensive campaigning and outreach efforts. Calling for introspection, Stalin said the DMK has historically overcome setbacks and would rise again “like a phoenix.”

He also pointed to the growing influence of social media in shaping electoral outcomes, alleging that a party which lacked traditional grassroots engagement managed to secure victory through its digital reach and indirect campaigning strategies. Admitting that the DMK failed to effectively counter this trend, he said the party would adopt corrective measures going forward. Expressing confidence in the future, Stalin asserted that the DMK would return to power and continue its welfare-driven governance agenda.
