Chennai, May 21:
The Chennai District Administration has announced that the lottery process for admissions under the 25% reservation quota in private schools will be conducted on May 22, 2026, at 10 AM across the district.
Under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, children from economically weaker and disadvantaged sections are provided free admission in non-minority private self-financing schools every year. The initiative continues to play a key role in ensuring inclusive access to quality education.
For the 2026–2027 academic year, online applications were invited between April 20 and May 18. According to the District Collector, a total of 7,004 applications were received, of which 5,386 were found eligible after scrutiny.
The selection process will be carried out through a transparent lottery system in 609 private schools across Chennai district, ensuring fair allocation of seats among eligible applicants.
Parents who have applied under the RTE scheme have been asked to be present at their respective schools during the lottery process. They have also been instructed to carry their registered application details for verification.
Officials reiterated that the RTE 25% reservation scheme remains a crucial step in bridging educational inequality by enabling children from underprivileged backgrounds to study in private institutions.
