Chennai, May 28:
The Southern Railway has announced the completion of major modernisation works at Arakkonam Junction railway station, carried out at a cost of ₹97.73 crore to enhance train operations and passenger convenience.
A crucial rail hub in Tamil Nadu, Arakkonam connects key northern routes and handles significant suburban and long-distance traffic. As part of the upgrade, separate railway tracks have been developed for express and suburban trains, enabling smoother and simultaneous train movements, thereby reducing congestion and delays.
In addition, infrastructure works worth ₹7 crore have been completed near Thiruvalangadu railway station to further streamline rail traffic in the section.
To accommodate increasing passenger demand, Platforms 3, 4, and 5 have been extended from handling 18-coach trains to 24-coach trains. The station redevelopment also includes improved passenger amenities, new subway facilities, and enhanced operational infrastructure.
The upgrades are expected to significantly benefit daily commuters travelling along the Chennai–Arakkonam–Renigunta and Chennai–Arakkonam–Chengalpattu corridors, making travel more efficient and comfortable.
