Chennai, May 30:
AIADMK General Secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has shifted to a new residence in Royapettah after vacating the government bungalow on Greenways Road, where he had been residing for nearly 15 years.
The bungalow, named ‘Sevvanthi’, was allotted to Palaniswami in 2011 when he was inducted as a Minister in the Cabinet led by former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. He continued to occupy the residence throughout his tenure as a Minister and later as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Even after the AIADMK’s defeat in the 2021 Assembly elections, Palaniswami, who assumed the role of Leader of the Opposition, was permitted to continue staying in the bungalow as per government norms.
However, following the 2026 Assembly elections, the AIADMK lost its status as the principal Opposition party, necessitating the vacating of the அரசு-allotted residence in accordance with official protocol.
Sources said Palaniswami has now moved to his new house on Deivasigamani Street in Royapettah, strategically located close to the AIADMK headquarters.
The relocation is seen as a move that brings the party leader closer to the party’s administrative hub in Chennai, facilitating easier coordination of party activities and organisational matters.
