Chennai, June 6:
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) has registered a case against former Tamil Nadu Minister KN Nehru in connection with alleged irregularities in recruitments and tender-related activities during his tenure as Minister for Municipal Administration and Water Supply (MAWS).
According to the investigation, the case pertains to allegations of bribery, corruption, and misuse of power in municipal-level appointments and contract allocations carried out during his ministerial period. Officials have initiated criminal proceedings based on inputs and materials reportedly shared during earlier stages of inquiry.
The allegations are linked to claims previously raised by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which had pointed to large-scale irregularities in recruitment processes and tender awards within the MAWS department. The agency had alleged that significant sums were involved in what it described as illegal recruitment practices and contract manipulation. However, these remain allegations and are subject to further legal scrutiny.
The ED had also urged the state machinery to initiate action based on its findings, following which the DVAC has now proceeded with registering a formal case. The matter is currently under investigation, and officials are expected to examine financial records, recruitment files, and administrative approvals as part of the probe.
Sources indicate that further investigative steps may follow, including possible parallel proceedings under financial crime statutes, depending on the findings of the ongoing inquiry.
At present, the case remains in the preliminary stage, and no judicial conclusion has been reached. Authorities have stated that the investigation will continue in accordance with due process.
