Chennai,  June 9:

Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay is set to inaugurate the newly formed ‘Singappen’ special task force for women’s safety today, marking one of the first major initiatives of the newly sworn-in government.

The Singappen task force, announced shortly after Vijay assumed office, is aimed at strengthening safety measures for women across Tamil Nadu. The initiative reflects the government’s focus on proactive policing, prevention of crimes against women, and building public confidence.

The task force will be headed by an Inspector General of Police (IGP) and will comprise 36 sanctioned posts. These include one Superintendent of Police, two Deputy Superintendents of Police, four Inspectors, eight Sub-Inspectors, and 20 personnel from other ranks, all redeployed from the existing police force.

According to the government order, the Singappen unit will identify vulnerable and crime-prone areas, conduct surveillance, and ensure deployment of personnel in locations frequently accessed by women such as bus stands, railway stations, and educational institutions. It will also receive complaints related to women’s safety and coordinate rescue operations and awareness programmes in collaboration with government departments and NGOs.

The initiative has been designed with prevention and protection as its core objectives, aiming to improve women’s safety and instil a greater sense of security among them.

The launch of the Singappen task force comes alongside the government’s broader push to strengthen law and order, including plans to expand anti-narcotics enforcement through dedicated units across the state.
