Veteran actor Kamal Haasan expressed deep admiration and gratitude for legendary filmmaker Singeetham Srinivasa Rao during a promotional event for the upcoming film Sing Geetham. Reflecting on their long-standing collaboration, Kamal fondly recalled his early years working with the director, describing it as a defining phase in his cinematic journey.
Kamal, who collaborated with Singeetham on several iconic films including Raja Paarvai, Apoorva Sagodharargal, Michael Madana Kama Rajan, Magalir Mattum, and Mumbai Xpress, shared an anecdote about his youthful association with the director. He revealed that he began working with Singeetham at the age of 21—much younger than the current team working on Sing Geetham.
“I was 21 when I did all that these boys had done with him,” Kamal said, adding that he was, in many ways, an assistant director to Singeetham while also being a producer. He notably co-wrote, produced, and starred in both Raja Paarvai and Mumbai Xpress, underlining his deep creative involvement in those projects.
Speaking emotionally at the event, Kamal emphasized that his respect for Singeetham does not require a special occasion. “This is yet another film Raaj Kamal wished it had produced. It doesn’t matter; this is not a race—we are running together, not to get ahead of each other,” he remarked, highlighting the spirit of collaboration over competition.
Kamal also expressed regret at not being part of the film’s journey from the beginning. Addressing the director’s team, he said he would have gladly stood alongside them had he been invited earlier. However, he added that his trust in Singeetham remains unwavering and that he hopes for another opportunity to collaborate in the future.
Sing Geetham is being produced by Nag Ashwin, known for directing the ambitious sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD. The film has already generated interest due to its association with such celebrated names, and Kamal’s heartfelt tribute has further heightened anticipation around the project.
