Toronto, June 12:
Co-hosts Canada will begin their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign on home soil when they take on Bosnia and Herzegovina in a Group B clash at Toronto Stadium on Friday.
The match will be a historic occasion as it marks the first men’s World Cup fixture ever played in Canada. Jesse Marsch’s side enter the tournament with growing confidence, having gone unbeaten in 2026 and extended their run to eight matches without defeat.
Despite qualifying for the World Cup twice before, Canada are still searching for their first victory in the competition after losing all six of their previous matches.
The hosts could also be without captain Alphonso Davies, who has not featured for the national team since the 2025 CONCACAF Nations League.
Bosnia and Herzegovina, meanwhile, are returning to the World Cup for only the second time after securing qualification through the playoffs.
Under coach Sergej Barbarez, the Europeans are also unbeaten in their last eight matches and have impressed with their defensive organisation.
Having narrowly missed out on the knockout stage during their debut appearance in 2014, Bosnia will be eager to make a strong start, while Canada will look to capitalise on home advantage and finally claim their maiden World Cup win.
With both teams carrying impressive unbeaten runs into the tournament, an intriguing Group B contest is expected in Toronto.
