Washington, June 13:
US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran attempted to carry out a drone attack on Indian ships in the Strait of Hormuz, escalating already high tensions in the region.
According to the report, Trump said the alleged drone attack was “totally unacceptable” and described it as a “rebuffed” attempt targeting Indian-flagged or Indian-crew vessels passing through the strategic shipping lane.
The statement comes amid a broader wave of maritime incidents in the Gulf and near the Omani coast, where several commercial vessels—including those with Indian crew members—have reportedly come under attack in recent days. At least one incident has resulted in the deaths of Indian sailors, prompting strong diplomatic concern from New Delhi.
Trump also used the remarks to criticize ongoing US–Iran negotiations, accusing Tehran of misrepresenting the terms of a proposed deal and calling Iran’s version of events “not truthful” and “dishonourable,” further hardening his tone against the Iranian leadership.
