Chennai, June 15:

Tamil Nadu is gearing up to tap into the vast global fireworks market, with Sivakasi poised to emerge as a major export hub, Industries Minister Keerthana announced on Sunday.

Highlighting the untapped potential of the state’s fireworks sector, the Minister said Tamil Nadu has the capacity to rival China in global exports, provided a strong and structured policy framework is put in place. She noted that while China currently dominates the international market, Sivakasi’s well-established manufacturing base, skilled workforce, and infrastructure give it a competitive edge.

Speaking after her official visit to South Korea, Keerthana stressed the importance of a legally compliant and export-oriented policy. “We have the capability but have not fully leveraged global opportunities. With clear regulations and support systems, exports can be significantly enhanced,” she said.

The Minister pointed out that boosting exports would transform the economic landscape of Virudhunagar district, the heart of India’s fireworks industry. Its proximity to ports further strengthens its logistical advantage for international trade.

During her visit abroad, Keerthana engaged with global industry leaders and promoted Sivakasi’s fireworks sector, which drew considerable interest from foreign investors. She revealed that a single buyer from Poland imports fireworks worth around ₹6,000 crore, underscoring the scale of global demand.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, she said a new export-friendly policy would soon be unveiled to attract investments, ensure compliance with international standards, and position Tamil Nadu as a strong contender in the global fireworks market.
