Chennai, June 18:

The Greater Chennai Corporation has invited applications for free vocational training courses at its Industrial Training Institute (ITI) for the current academic year, with June 30 set as the last date to apply.

The initiative aims to equip youth with industry-ready skills through certification from the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT), enhancing both employment and self-employment opportunities.

The ITI offers six technical courses with durations ranging from one to two years. These include computer operator and programming assistant (COPA), plumber, motor mechanic vehicle, electronic mechanic, fitter, and electrician. Preference will be given to students from Chennai-based schools and children of GCC employees, while remaining seats will be allocated to other eligible candidates from the district as per reservation norms.

The programme also includes practical exposure through internships lasting one to three months, with stipends ranging from ₹10,500 to ₹15,000 per month depending on the company. Trainees will additionally receive a monthly stipend of ₹750, along with an extra ₹1,000 for eligible students under government schemes such as Tamil Pudhalvan and Puthumai Penn.

Students will also benefit from free uniforms, shoes, bicycles, bus passes, meals, and snacks.

Application forms can be downloaded from the official GCC website or collected directly from the ITI campus at Lloyds Colony, Royapettah.
