Chennai, June 19:
In a significant political development in Tamil Nadu, senior Communist Party of India (CPI) leader C. Mahendran has joined the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-turned-politician Vijay.
The move comes as a major boost to TVK, which has been steadily expanding its political base following its recent rise in state politics.
Mahendran, a veteran leader with decades of experience in the CPI, resigned from the party before formally joining TVK at an event held at the party’s headquarters in Panaiyur, Chennai.
He has held several key positions in the CPI over the years, including serving as state deputy secretary for more than two decades and playing an active role in student and youth wings of the party.
