Chennai, June 25:
In a fresh development in the transport department job scam, police in Chennai have arrested Ilanchezhiyan, an aide of former Tamil Nadu Transport Minister S. S. Sivasankar, in connection with an alleged cheating case.
According to reports, the arrest was made by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) following complaints that money had been collected from job aspirants with promises of securing employment in the state transport department.
The scam is believed to have taken place during the previous DMK regime, when Sivasankar held the transport portfolio between 2022 and 2026. Authorities suspect that large sums were taken from candidates under the pretext of providing government jobs.
Police officials have begun a detailed investigation to determine how the money was collected, the total amount involved, and whether more individuals were part of the racket.
