Chennai, June 25:

In a significant tribute to a fallen soldier, the Government of Tamil Nadu has announced that the busy Velachery–Tambaram Road in Chennai will be renamed as Major Mukund Varadarajan Salai. The decision has been taken to honour the bravery and sacrifice of Mukund Varadarajan, an Indian Army officer who laid down his life during anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

Major Varadarajan is remembered for his exceptional courage while leading operations against militants. He was posthumously honoured for his valour, and the renaming of this key arterial road serves as a lasting recognition of his service to the nation. Officials stated that the move aims to ensure that his legacy continues to inspire future generations.

The announcement reflects the state government’s commitment to acknowledging the contributions of armed forces personnel. By naming a prominent city road after the officer, authorities hope to instil a sense of pride and remembrance among the public, while also highlighting the sacrifices made by soldiers in safeguarding the country.
