Chennai, June 29:
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol Thirumavalavan on Sunday brushed aside the controversy surrounding the appointment of a film producer as Tamil Nadu’s Special Representative in New Delhi, terming it an internal matter of the ruling TVK.
Speaking to reporters at Tiruchi airport, Thirumavalavan said Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay was fully empowered to make such appointments and asserted that the decision would have no adverse impact on issues concerning the State.
“Though it is a government post, the authority to appoint rests with the Chief Minister. It is an internal matter of the party,” he said.
His remarks came in response to criticism from various quarters over the appointment. Addressing the issue earlier, Electricity, Prohibition and Excise Minister R Nirmalkumar had clarified that the individual was chosen as he enjoyed the confidence of the Chief Minister. He also noted that the role did not involve taking key administrative decisions.
Reiterating his stand, Thirumavalavan maintained that the appointment would not affect governance or the State’s interests, downplaying the political row triggered by the decision.
