Chennai, July 2:

The proposed Madhavaram–Nallur Elevated Corridor is set to significantly transform traffic movement along the Chennai–Kolkata National Highway (NH-16), offering much-needed relief to commuters in North Chennai.

The project is aimed at decongesting one of the city’s busiest arterial stretches, where traffic bottlenecks and delays have long been a concern. Once completed, the elevated corridor is expected to streamline vehicular flow, reduce travel time, and improve overall road efficiency.

Officials say the corridor will enhance connectivity between key northern suburbs and industrial zones, facilitating smoother transit for both passenger and freight vehicles. The improved infrastructure is also likely to support economic activity in the region by ensuring faster and more reliable transportation.

In addition to easing congestion, the project is expected to reduce fuel consumption and vehicular emissions by minimising idle time in traffic, contributing to a more sustainable urban transport system.

The Madhavaram–Nallur Elevated Corridor is part of broader efforts to upgrade Chennai’s road network and address growing traffic demands, particularly in rapidly developing northern parts of the city.
