Tirupur, July 7:
MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Monday accused the DMK of laying the foundation for horse-trading in Tamil Nadu politics, alleging that the party had historically indulged in such practices.
Speaking to reporters after inaugurating a campaign to eradicate the invasive Prosopis juliflora species in Tirupur, Vaiko claimed that the DMK had sown the seeds of political horse-trading. He cited an instance involving former MDMK MLA N. Ramakrishnan, who was elected from Cumbum, alleging that he was made to resign and recontest on the DMKâs ârising sunâ symbol.
The veteran leader also dismissed criticisms suggesting that the ruling TVK government would collapse within six months. He asserted that the government would complete its full five-year term, describing such remarks as politically motivated.
Vaiko further claimed that the present administration had brought in a corruption-free system by eliminating the commission culture in government offices. According to him, people can now obtain official approvals without paying bribes.
âIn the past, no official work could be completed without paying bribes ranging from âč1 lakh to âč1 crore,â he alleged.
