Chennai, July 13:
City traffic police have announced a year-long traffic diversion at Thirumangalam starting today until July 12, 2027, to facilitate the construction of an elevated corridor under Chennai Metro Rail Limited’s Phase-II Corridor-5 project.
The diversion is expected to significantly impact vehicular movement in and around the busy Thirumangalam junction, a key arterial point connecting Anna Nagar, Koyambedu, and surrounding areas. Motorists have been advised to follow alternative routes and adhere to traffic police instructions to avoid congestion and delays. Authorities are likely to deploy additional personnel and signage to manage traffic flow efficiently during the construction period.
The project is part of the city’s larger effort to expand Metro connectivity and ease long-term traffic congestion. While the temporary inconvenience may pose challenges for daily commuters, officials have urged the public to cooperate, emphasising that the infrastructure upgrade will ultimately improve urban mobility and reduce travel time across key corridors in Chennai.
