London, July 16:

India will look to secure an unassailable lead in the three-match ODI series against England when the two sides meet in the second ODI at Sophia Gardens today.

The visitors head into the contest with confidence after a convincing six-wicket victory in the opening match, but concerns around injuries and inconsistent batting remain.

The spotlight is firmly on captain Shubman Gill, who played a match-winning knock of 80* in the first ODI but appeared to suffer a fitness issue towards the end of his innings.
Team management is expected to take a cautious approach, with his availability likely to influence India’s batting strategy.

At the same time, experienced campaigners Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be keen to find form after a subdued start to the series.

India’s positives from the opening game include the return of Jasprit Bumrah, whose disciplined bowling troubled England’s top order, and the all-round brilliance of Axar Patel, who contributed significantly with both bat and ball. Their performances have given the visitors balance and momentum heading into the crucial fixture.
