Chennai, July 18:
The much-awaited new bus terminus at Velachery is nearing completion, promising to significantly enhance urban mobility and ease congestion in the city’s southern corridor. Located near the Velachery MRTS Railway Station, the modern facility is expected to improve last-mile connectivity by seamlessly integrating bus and rail services.
The upcoming terminus will feature dedicated bus bays, improved parking infrastructure, and a range of passenger-friendly amenities aimed at providing a more efficient and comfortable travel experience. Officials say the project has been designed to address long-standing traffic bottlenecks in and around Velachery, one of Chennai’s busiest transit hubs.
With its strategic location, the terminus is expected to reduce pressure on existing bus stands while streamlining the movement of both commuters and public transport vehicles. The integration with MRTS services is likely to encourage greater use of public transport, reducing dependency on private vehicles.
Authorities indicate that the project is in its final stages, and once operational, it will play a key role in strengthening Chennai’s multi-modal transport network. The development is also seen as part of broader efforts to modernise the city’s infrastructure in line with growing urban demands.
