Chennai, July 21:
Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Monday directed the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) to utilise plastic and other non-biodegradable waste for road construction as part of a scientific waste management strategy.
The directive was issued during his review of the bio-CNG plant at Chetpet, which operates under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. According to an official release, the facility processes up to 140 metric tonnes of wet waste daily, converting it into bio-CNG that is bottled and supplied to restaurants and commercial establishments.
Emphasising efficient waste segregation, the Chief Minister instructed officials to ensure that all households separate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste at source.
He further stressed the need to implement scientific waste management practices across all urban local bodies in the State.
