Chennai, July 24:
The Greater Chennai Police have arrested two associates of BT Arasakumar, accused of cheating private schools of over ₹100 crore by promising government approvals. The arrested — A Arockiaraj and C Suresh — allegedly collected money from school managements despite having no official links to the education department.
Police said Arasakumar, who has been detained under the Goondas Act, operated through an unregistered body named “Tamil Nadu Private Schools Association,” promising recognition, upgrades and regulatory clearances using claimed political influence. Investigators have frozen over 61 bank accounts and recorded statements from more than 120 school administrators and 190 witnesses. Originally from Pudukkottai, Arasakumar has had shifting political affiliations, including stints with both the DMK and BJP.
