Chennai, July 24:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the redeveloped Rameswaram Railway Station in September, marking a major upgrade in rail infrastructure. Officials from Southern Railway said the modernised station will feature enhanced passenger amenities and improved facilities.
Alongside the inauguration, the much-awaited Chennai–Rameswaram Vande Bharat Express is set to be launched, offering faster and more comfortable connectivity between Chennai and the pilgrimage town of Rameswaram. Authorities also plan to introduce additional train services once the station becomes fully operational.
Future expansion includes a second railway track on the Pamban Railway Bridge to handle increased traffic. The existing bridge will eventually be dismantled, with a miniature model to be displayed at the station to preserve its historic legacy.
