At the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, India delivered another outstanding performance yesterday, clinching two historic gold medals in Judo, winning a first-ever bronze medal in the Decathlon, and booking places for 10 boxers in their respective finals.
Judokas Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh scripted history by becoming India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medallists in the sport. Asmita clinched the women’s 48-kilogram title after defeating Canada’s Heidi Quach in the golden score, while Harsh defeated Australian Olympian Joshua Katz to win the yellow metal in Men’s 60-kilogram category. Yamini Mourya added a silver in the women’s 57-kilogram event, giving India its best-ever Commonwealth Games campaign in judo with two gold and one silver medal.
Tejaswin Shankar also created history by becoming the first Indian to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the decathlon, claiming bronze.
India’s boxers also delivered an outstanding performance, with 10 pugilists winning their respective semi-final bouts to enter the finals.
